Algeria to Increase Energy Efficiency and Renewables

THE Algerian Ministry of Energy is to submit an energy efficiency program to the government within the next few weeks according to allAfrica.com.

Minister of Energy Youcef Yousfi revealed his ministry’s intention at a press conference held during a visit to a pilot for shale gas wells in Salah (Tamanrasset). He was asked about the steps the ministry intends to take to implement the measure enacted by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Bouteflika instructed the energy sector to promote the rationalization of domestic energy consumption, to strengthen energy transition through the development of new and renewable energy, and to increase research and exploitation of hydrocarbons.

Yousfialso added that the country’s renewable energy program will also be updated, with plans to produce 22,000MW of electricity from solar and wind renewable source, which would be up to 30% share of the republic’s electricity from renewables by 2030.
