Energy Saving Measure save 100s Millions of Dong

VIETNAMESE companies are delighted to have saved hundreds of millions of dong from the energy saving solutions they have implemented, a lot more money than they had previously thought.

Just the Tan Binh Industrial Zone in Ho Chi Minh city report savings of hundreds of millions of dong over the last 12 months alone.

A representative of one facility in Tan Bihn, the Khanh Hoi factory, said, “thanks to the energy saving management mechanism, the factory could save 300,000 kwh of electricity, or 300 million dong ($14,342).”

How did Khanh Hoi make these savings? The factory installed energy measuring and monitoring equipment to gain control of their energy use within the factory. They also installed automated lighting controls in various areas. They were also able to use natural light instead of electric lamps and they upgraded their pumps with energy efficient motor controls.

Having now realised the benefits of the energy saving solutions, many businesses are planning further energy efficiency projects, which also minimises CO2 emissions.

Nguyen Thuc Quen, of the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) project which support banks in providing loans for energy efficiency improvements, stated, “any projects which allow to save 15 percent of energy or more, which can pay back investment capital within 2 to 3 years, would be eligible for loans.”

The Vietnamese banks who have joined the IFC programme have committed to an investment portfolio worth $50 million, with the credit amount from IFC worth $25 million.
