Rubber Energy - Video

Generating energy while you drive to charge an electric vehicle’s (EV) battery would seem to be a perfect combination. Just such a solution could be on the horizon from Goodyear - the tire company.

At this years Geneva International Motor Show Goodyear revealed a concept tire the “BHO3” – which offers the possibility of charging the batteries of electric cars by transforming the heat generated by the rolling tire into electrical energy.

The materials in the tire capture and transform the energy created by heat when it flexes as it rolls during normal driving conditions. The materials used would optimize the tire’s electricity generation capabilities as well as its rolling resistance.

Although this tire is a concept, Goodyear reckon it represents an essential aspect of tire development, and which would greatly enhance the range potential of an EV.
